Renter-Friendly(ish) upgrades
to a cozy Portland apartment
Our existing collected decor of golds, reds and dark wood tones felt disjointed and dingy when we moved into a 2000s build.
After painting a backdrop of deep green with a hint of blue (ask your landlord!) the eclectic collection coheres and shines bright.
Before, this shaded, north facing home actually felt darker with stark white walls.
It is now a cozy retreat, made vibrant with art, plants, and textiles (and pets!).

A gallery wall of large artworks matches the scale of this long living room wall. Buying new pieces this large was out of our budget, so we found digital downloads, FBMP deals and painted two of the canvas ourselves!
This lamp was a favorite thrift find of mine. $14 at Goodwill. I bragged about it to everyone. So worth fitting it into my car by myself :) Nico the dog posed for these shots all on his own. What a star.
This wall off of our kitchen was visible from the living room, so we kept it light with a high contrasting black and white palette. We featured a favorite piece - a textile print my husband received as a baby. We matched the texture with an etched and dented vase from CB2.
I fell in love with this textural plant and planter from nearby Cornell Farms. The cabinet was another lucky FBMP find.
